there's no place like home... except grandma's
Good morning everyone! Sorry for not posting, I slept over my grandparent's house. After waking up in such a funk I decided to take a mental health day and called out of work yesterday. My best friend from home and I spent the day wandering through Mt. Kisco until she had to go, at which point I called my grandma to see what she was up to. I was with her for the remainder of my Monday. It was wonderful :). Iced Skim Latte Hummus & Veggie Sandwich from Cosi with Baby Carrots Mixed Berry Smoothie made with fruit and low-fat yogurt. I actually only drank about a third of it. Not only was it very filling but my stomach had been off because of my nerves.I didn't mention it before but I was especially upset because, in addition to about 4 best friends from school that I had to say goodbye to, I said goodbye to the boy. He is Pre-Med and has an internship at Beth Israel in Boston for the summer and just left Monday morning. He drove down on Sunday night and picked me up to go out to dinner. I had already ate though so I chose the restaurant solely based on what he was in the mood for... a burger. Ha, it's funny because he knows how interested in vegetarianism, nutrition, and health I am. He actually felt bad for his craving, cute :) I directed him to the grill with the best burgers in Mt. Pleasant, Michael's. (I'd provide a link but they don't have the healthiest fare and I didn't end up getting anything so I thought it'd be unnecessary.) I ordered a cup of coffee while he got that humongous triple cheeseburger! We lingered around the restaurant and then took a 2-hour walk through the town of Pleasantville. I swear time flies when you're having a good conversation! By the time we got back to my house I still wasn't ready for him to leave so I invited him in to watch television. My dad cut the night short though so the boy left soon after and I had yet another tearful goodbye, and sooner than expected. Fortunately I had an extra-nice day yesterday so I'm feeling better now. Breakfast was peanut butter & flax on whole wheat toast (the picture is in the last post.) and everything else was eaten out (see above). In the evening, my grandma and her brilliant ideas decided to go to Mrs. Greens Natural Market. She let me buy anything I wanted and we picked up dinner in their prepared food section: Tuna/Salmon Sushi for me and Mulligatawny soup for her. When we got home we also took out roasted vegetable she had made the other night. For dessert I had a piece of a Vegan Oatmeal Raisin & Walnut cookie by Alternative Baking Company. Oh my! That was probably the best cookie I've ever had, I need to make a batch of my own as soon as possible! I love my grandma! We have always been really close because I'm her first grandchild and she knows exactly how to make me feel better mentally, physically, and emotionally. Not to mention that she always makes oatmeal for breakfast ;) haha! She uses rolled oats and adds raisins and soy milk. To mine I also included shaved almonds, a dollop of vanilla yogurt and 1/2 a spoonful of Honey Almond Butter. Yum! This was actually my first time tasting almond butter. I'm pretty sure I liked it but I'm glad that I keep PB around my house, I'm hooked for life. I just got home a little while ago, unpacked, and got a call from a coworker asking if he could work for me today. Sure! Here's my mini-food shopping trip thanks to grandma: I'm feeling full but not quite completely satisfied from breakfast so I made green tea and thought I'd show you my bookstore purchases from yesterday at well. FYI my mom did most of the produce shopping the other day so I had to resist... it was as tough as it sounds. Between a week's worth of good food, my four new books, and the fact that I'm going abroad soon, I suppose I have a ton to look forward to ;) Happy Tuesday, I hope you all can enjoy the beautiful weather!
